Man vs. Calzone: The Olive Invasion

Well, not all good things end nicely. Something we should remember when going into this week's AFC Championship Game. But that isn't what we came here to talk about. We came here to talk about olives. And how they ruin perfectly good calzones. The calzone competition of 2009 has come to a sad end. A sad and awful tasting end. I loved these zone's but I hate olives. And this final zone was an Olive Invasion. It was not a good way to go out.

Thanks again to Lindsay for her delicious calzones. So far they have been the best thing I have eaten all year. But I am looking forward to getting back to a regular, not so high in carb diet.

Man vs. Calzone: Vegetable Medley Explosion

After an all day hangover this past Saturday I felt the best way to finally repair myself was with none other than a Lindsay Maiocco super sweet calzone. Filled with more vegetable goodness than the Pepper Fetish this zone had every veggie that I love and more. Packed into a golden wheat shell with loads of mozzarella, every bite exploded with the evenly proportioned taste of onions, green peppers, tomatoes and banana peppers. It couldn't of been any better. All my favorites stuffed into a Vegetable Medley Explosion.

This second zone carried itself well, having a lot to live up to after last week's Pepper Feta Mozzarella Fetish. Stay tuned as this week we move on with rumors of a possible olive invasion. Ew?

Man vs. Calzone: The Pepper Feta Mozzarella Fetish

My good friend Lindsay Maiocco surprised me Monday morning with a belated Christmas gift of several nicely wrapped frozen calzones. Homemade and packed with fresh veggies from Lindsay's personal garden these zones took 2nd place in my 2008 Christmas gift review right behind the super awesome Early Dylan book my cousin got me. Each calzone came label-less with no hint of what might be in them. Last night marked the eating of the first zone and let me tell you something, it was fucking awesome! So awesome that I should of taken a photo, but due to a black out New Years Eve my camera has now stopped working.

This calzone, which I dubbed the name The Pepper Feta Mozzarella Fetish, was filled with delicious feta and mozzarella cheeses and an assortment of green peppers, red bell peppers and my personal favorite, banana peppers. Topped with a light oil spread and parmesan cheese this calzone is said to be the more simple of the four-some. So I ask myself? When did simple become so good? Can't wait to see where this calzone journey takes me. Thanks to Lindsay for the delicious and most fabulous Christmas gift. Love me some calzooooones!
