Phalco Films: The Beginning

The following is a journal entry written by Mike Roach in the fall of 2005:
Tonight, in Media Management we had to pick our groups. People wrote the names of industries they wanted to research on the board and their names underneath. I sat there, immobile, for a moment or two. Then I popped up and wrote myself under "Film".

I went over to the film group and said, "I bring nothing to the table."

Then it was on. The only dude in the group, Steve Sims, said he knew me from Philosophy class (he sits behind me somewhere.) He started talking about film. He's a free-lance videographer. He remembered the things I'd said in Philosophy and knew I was into film and that I was from Indiana and had moved to L.A.

We talked quite a bit, and when it was time to leave, he waited for me at the door. As we walked down the steps, he said that he wanted to do a movie and invited me to collaborate.

Holy shit! Did it happen? Yeah.

Under Water is Under Cover

When I'm not doing my old Phalco song and dance I'm usually out making music with Phalco friend and LA superstar, Erin Hickman. Under Water is the name and lovely ukulele melodies is the game. Here's a sneak peak of what we like to call, "An Under Water Summer."

Big News 2.0 Premiere Tonight!

It's 2010 and big things are already happening here in Hollywood. Phalco friend, writer Michael McCarthy (director of last summer's Phalco Sketch Comedy Stage Show), is at it again with a brand new iO West stage show and web series, Big News 2.0.

Michael McCarthy (“Saturday Night Live,” “Sesame Street,” and “The Drew Carey Show”) presents Big News 2.0 – premiering tonight at the iO West in Hollywood. It's a sketch show, web series, and weekly live show all rolled into one. Why? Because according to Michael and director Gen Kiyooka, "Nobody in Hollywood knows what to do anymore, including Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and us!"

Come check out the live show tonight and in the mean time enjoy this week's Big News 2.0 daily videos...

Fuck A Toy Truck, is it Christmas yet?

9:37am – It's Thursday. I think?
I don't know what the date is. I don't know when Christmas is. And I'm not sure why it's still 2009. It's like time has stopped here on the west coast. A year of chaos, craziness and absolute greatness has wiped my mind clean.

11:06am – Seriously. What day is it?
My one of four apple devices has just informed me that it's mid December. My work has informed me that Christmas is close, but not close enough. My social surroundings have informed me that it has been a great year and that a new one is upon us. I inform myself that the new one is going to be adventurous. Yet, I am still confused on why time is standing still.

1:23pm – Hungry.
When you think about it you begin to realize that this odd, not so real frozen moment of time is a chance to stop and reflect on what it is we have just sailed through. Changes in ways of life. Growth within our craft. Rediscovery of friends. Preparation for what is next. It's the end of a decade and a beginning to an all new era.

1:52pm – Umami Burger.
I'll continue to be confused on when I get to finally leave work and head back east. And I'll continue to be confused on why it feels like the holidays have already passed and why I'm sitting in some type of fake, nonrealistic world of reflection.

2:22pm – Last Meal!?
Oh God, could this be the moments before death? Or maybe I'm already dead. Was 2009 my last year on earth? Is Steven Sims and all his greatness gone for ever? Am I writing this awful blog post from purgatory?

2:23pm – That was a tasty burger.
Doubtful.

4:12pm – Long week.
It's just been the craziest and greatest year of my life. I'm worn out, tired and riding my final days of 2009 out in LA as long as possible. In a week I'll be on a flight back east. And in two weeks I'll be ringing in 2010 in the city that never sleeps. And in three weeks I'll be back in LA, at it again. Rocking the year of adventure.

This shit is Moranis M-O-R-A-N-I-S

DJ Lubel is his name and he is telling us the one thing we're all thinking, "I miss Moranis."

Agreed... Ed O'Neill was lame in 'Little Giants.' For more DJ Lubel check out his newest masterpiece, 'Wrong Hole' featuring the my personal favorite, Scott Baio.

I hear the call of a lifetime ring...

(Originally post from www.myspace.com/falcofilms)

Two thousand and seven will forever be known as the year Falco went west. It will also be known as the year that we listened to a lot of Spoon, drank too much Soju and stared at billboards. Who would of thought that two goof balls from the Burgh could pull off such an incredible adventure? Monsieur Valentine thought we could. Hell, he's so proud of us that he's sending Captain Foamy our way for a whole new adventure. It should be quite amazing.

So what about 2008? As mentioned, our good friend and spiritual mentor, Jeremy Tague, will be joining us full time for what will probably be some of the most interesting comedy to hit Hollywood since Corey Feldman's Truth Movement. We're also planning on premiering the infamous comedy, Destroying Jonah Hill. If you haven't already, make sure to check out the trailer online. If interested in obtaining an HD copy or for more information on the premiere of Destroying Jonah Hill, please email our publicist -- the monkey with glasses -- at falcofilms@gmail.com.

And finally, on this eve of Christmas, one week before we ring in the New Year, we here at Falco Films would like to thank our friends. Old friends, new friends, red friends, and blue friends…

First and foremost, D. Stern – Without your wisdom, guidance, and beautiful words Destroying Jonah Hill would of ended up being the next Kate & Leopold. You're a good man Dylan Stern. Falco is glad to have you onboard.

Captain Foamy aka JT McThanksgiving aka Jeremy Tague – Your arrival in 2008 will not only be a wonderful asset to Falco, but also a reason for us to grow beards and create some amazing comedy. You're a rich girl!

Miss Karen & Miss Stacie – Your futon was Falco's first home on the west coast. Without you two none of this could have happened.

90 West Lounge – Our home away from home. It not only became our second home, but the place where Destroying Jonah Hill was born.

Sarah M. Cornibe – It wasn't the same without you. But your beautiful proof reading and support from so many miles away still brought smiles to our faces.

Michelle – For being Falco's biggest fan.

The Compound – For getting us drunk, making us turkey and Dave Brock.

Geoffrey – Where would we be without you?

Tom Kay – For finally going to film school.

Spoon – For making amazing music.

Cast of Destroying Jonah Hill – You kids and slids made the film. Thank you for your efforts and cheap salary of pizza and beer.

Clint Elhers – Falco never had a father until we came west. Thanks for the work, the support, and taking a chance on two bums from the Steel City.

The Apatow Universe – For being such a beautiful comedic inspiration. You guys are doing consistent and excellent work. Please keep it going.

Jonah Hill – Your face saved us. Thanks for being so talented and amazingly funny. Maybe someday we'll meet again. Until then, thanks for not punching Sims in the face at the Jack Oakie Celebration of Comedy.

Phil Ranta – For being Phil Ranta.

Randy Newman – For lovin' L.A.

The Dumb Dumb Twins from Nebraska – Both of your efforts and excitement for Destroying Jonah Hill has not been overlooked. Thank you for being so kind to two guys who really aren't that nice.

Our friends and families back east – Thank you so very much for the support. You're the ones who pushed us for so long in the cold weather.

Wolfe Parade – One, for the infamous Slid Parade, which will someday get us kicked out of Hollywood, and two, because we DO believe in anything.

Best wishes to everyone this holiday season. Looking forward to seeing ya'll in 2008…"the year of hope."

2007 Fin.
